So ... you want to know a little something about me, huh?
Well, my name is Christy Ann Varghese. I am South Indian aka "malu," I am a born again Christian, and last, but definitely not least, I am a Houstonian and a Texan born and raised. My favorite color is white (I always wondered if white really counts as a color). I can eat a slice of pepperoni pizza anywhere anytime. I prefer t-shirts to blouses, jeans instead of skirts, and flip flops rather than high heels. That's just the kind of "girl" I am. I do have to admit that I do have quite a collection of shoes, purses, and perfume though, and I do like to straighten my hair, so I am at least that much girly I guess. Anyway, I am one of those people that is easily entertained as well as easily pleased. I am 4'11" and 3/4" tall (gotta have that 3/4"!), and I've gotten the short jokes my whole life, but I've truly and honestly enjoyed being short (it helps me look younger!). Being a photographer is pretty much a weekend thing for me right now, so I have to work as a mechanical engineer during the week to make money to buy all my way cool camera gear. I LOVE to travel and I am a bit on the adventurous side, and that just about sums me up! :o)
How I got to where I am today ... My photography hobby started back in my junior year of high school. I was elected historian of the drama club, and I was always interested in photography, so I saw this as my opportunity to truly get behind the camera, and I loved every minute of it. In college, I worked for a year as a photographer for the campus newspaper, and I also worked in one of those portrait studios in the mall (beware of the coupons ... there's always a catch!). And outside of that, I took pictures of my friends and family over the years. What really pushed me into wedding photography was a disappointing experience in January 2006. My cousin was getting married, and she asked me to help her find a photographer since I was the photo buff in the family. As I was browsing through so many photographers' websites, I started falling in love with the idea of photographing weddings. Well, the photographer we ended up going with turned out to be a really huge disappointment. I was so mad and frustrated, and I truly, honestly felt that I myself could have done a way better job than the so-called "professional" that was hired, so that's "the straw that broke the camel's back" for me. And off I went. :o)
